Mr. William Ray “Bill” Raper, age 79, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Springfield, Missouri. Bill was born March 20, 1933 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Simon Peter and Alta M. (Wilson) Raper. He was united in marriage to Leonia Cloyd on July 8, 1964. They lived in California many years, where Bill was a manager and meat buyer for two of the area grocery stores. Bill was an avid sports fan. He had been a member of the Cardinals minor league baseball and had served as the coach for the Simi Valley, California boy’s baseball team. Bill’s family was always a priority and he taught his children, by example, a good work ethic. He was a hard working family man who enjoyed driving in the California sunshine and good times with family and friends. His personality showed he was a just man. He cared about people and helped the less fortunate. Bill and his family moved back to Springfield in 1994. His wife, Leonia, passed away April 14, 2005. He married Carolyn Elizabeth (Meadors) Emmert in the spring of 2010, and they have made their home in Springfield. Bill and Carolyn were active members of the Brookline First Baptist Church. His survivors include: his wife, Carolyn, of the home; two sons, David, Ventura, California, and Ralph, Santa Paula, California; three daughters, Pam Salahub, Austin, Texas, Becky Wheeler, Marietta, Georgia, and Jamie McMurtrey, Redding, California; a stepson, Otis Emmert; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two brothers, Leroy and Ben Raper, both of Republic; two sisters, Anna Mae Cole, Republic, Missouri, and Louise Yates, Ozark, Missouri; nine nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
