There are condolences waiting approval on KATHRYN's Tribute wall

Kathryn Helaine “Kaye” Killingsworth, age 79, of Clever, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2018, after a short illness. She was surrounded by many of her loved ones as she made her way home to God.

Kaye was born on June 28, 1938, and grew up on a dirt road outside Clever. She graduated from Clever High School in 1956 and married her high school sweetheart Larry Killingsworth in 1957. They began a life centered on faith and family, and spent many summers traveling the country with their sons to visit national parks like Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Glacier, major cities like Boston, New York, and San Francisco and many small towns and country backgrounds. In later life Kaye and Larry took cruises to Alaska, New England, and the Panama Canal,—she even won a trip to the Caribbean in a radio contest. She truly had a love of travel and new experiences.

As much as she loved travel she may have loved sports even more. Kaye was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and passed many a hot summer night in the Ozarks listening to games on the radio. One of her fondest memories was attending a 2006 World Series game and watching the Cardinals beat the Detroit Tigers. She also cherished the local Springfield Cardinals and the Missouri State Lady Bears basketball team.

She also loved math, especially algebra, and worked in accounting for most of her life. It was rare for a woman in those days to work outside the home once she was married, let alone after she had children. In this small way, she paved the way for other women to join the work force.

Kaye had a strong faith in God that sustained her through good times and bad. She found a strong sense of community at Brookline First Baptist Church and shared the word of God with friends and family.

Nothing was more important to Kaye than spending time with her loved ones. One of her greatest joys was having a house full of family during the holidays to share stories and great food with—especially her unparalleled country ham with biscuits and gravy. One of her proudest recent accomplishments was the surprise 60th wedding anniversary party she planned for Larry that included all her children and their partners, her grandchildren, and original members of the wedding party.

Kaye is survived by Larry Killingsworth, her husband of 60 years; and by their three sons, Brad and Theresa Killingsworth (and their sons Logan, Brett, and Kyle); Ben Killingsworth and Kandice Mefford; Brian Killingsworth and Adell Amos (and their daughters Jordan, Ella, and Millie); and Jordan’s mother, Gina Larson Ellerbee.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Wise Hill Cemetery, Clever, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dan Swadley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 9685, Springfield, MO 65801.
