Obituary for RUBY FAY MERITT

Ruby Fay Meritt, age 83, of Clever, Missouri, passed away on October 5, 2018 after a short illness. She was born in a house in Stone County, Missouri on February 2, 1935 to Thomas and Lyndal (Barnett) Mallonee.

Ruby is survived by her children, Cathy Sanderson (Richard), Tom Meritt (Kathy), and Karen Bloomer; Grandchildren, Jaredd King (Heather), James Darin Bloomer, Jessica Bloomer, Jonathan Bloomer, Mallonee Meritt Basham (Tony), Travis Meritt; Great Grandchildren, Lanie, Gracie, Abbi, Rylea, Klarah, Maycee, James Allen, Aidyn, Emma, Tegan, Jaxon, Brendyn, and Maverick; one sister-in-law, Mary Katherine Boyd; five nieces and their families and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Allen Meritt, of 63 years; two grandchildren, Aaron King and Jeffrey Bloomer; one great grandchild Paity; her brother Winfred Mallonee; and a brother-in-law John Boyd.

Ruby attended school in Hurley and graduated from Hurley High School. Jim and Ruby met at a Fox Hunt in Boaz, Missouri and married on January 1, 1954. Ruby worked at Friendly Ford and then at Twin Oaks Country Club as the Bookkeeper, retiring after 35 years. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, and an Eastern Star (a 50-year member).

Jim and Ruby were square dancers and enjoyed going to auctions. They loved watching their great grandchildren play sports and attend their school functions.

All the grandchildren and great grandchildren treasured spending time at Pa Jim and Grandma Ruby’s house. The door was always open for family and neighbors. She always had a fresh cake or cookies on the counter to share.

Ruby was well known by friends and family for her home cooking. She was especially known for her delicious pies and her famous Oatmeal Cake. Ruby enjoyed gardening and having a bumper crop of tomatoes. She kept a brood of chickens that entertained her and also kept her and the family in eggs. She had a green thumb. She could revive plants and they thrived under her care. Ruby loved to crochet, over the years she made many items that she shared with family and friends.

Ruby, along with Jim, leave a legacy for their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a multitude of family and friends.
