Obituary for DORIS F. FORTNER

Mrs. Doris F. Fortner, age 82, of Republic, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 in Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, with family at her side. She was born on February 16, 1935 in Republic, Missouri, the daughter of Henry Burl and Ida Mae (Inman) McConnell.

Doris was united in marriage to Robert Duane “Bob” Fortner on January 11, 1963 and they enjoyed 41 years together before his death on July 17, 2004. Others who preceded Doris in death were her parents; a brother, Harry Lee McConnell; sisters, Mary Lou McElhaney and Deloris Davis; and two brothers in law, Leon McElhaney, and Everett Davis.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Connie Mae (Jack) Davis, and Tammy Fay (Shelia) Fortner; grandchildren, Bryan (Ashley) Davis, and Katie (Bryan) Barnes; step grandchildren, Audry Gritts, Caitlin Seitz, and Brittney Snider; a brother, Burl (Bobbie) McConnell; a sister in law, Joann McConnell; a very special and dear friend, Lyndell Groves; and many other extended family and friends.

She was a faithful associate of Walmart for 26 years. “She loved fiercely, worked hard, and invested into the lives of all she met.”

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018, also in the funeral home, with Dr. Josh Vance officiating. Burial will follow the service in Evergreen Cemetery, Republic.
