Evelyn (Bull) Ruckman, age 92, died on March 28, 2018 at her home in Republic, MO. She was born October 3, 1925 in Springfield, MO, to Charles Olan and Clora (Hargis) Bull.

Evelyn attended Lindsey and Republic schools then continued her education in the medical field obtaining her Licensed Practical Nurse Degree. Evelyn married Eugene Henry Ruckman on April 16, 1942.

Evelyn grew up on her parents’ farm east of Republic and helped with her father’s chicken hatchery on Main Street. Evelyn’s love of canning, raising chickens and working hard started during her childhood and stayed with her through adulthood. She was a great teacher and shared her knowledge of the “old ways” with anyone interested in learning.

Evelyn worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator in Joplin, MO then Lily Tulip in Springfield, MO for several years. After obtaining her nursing degree, she enjoyed 17 years caring for babies in the Neonatal ICU at Cox South, Springfield. Evelyn also worked for Oxford Home Health during this time traveling southwest Missouri area to care for babies that were sent home from the NICU. After retiring, Evelyn enjoyed traveling, playing piano and spending time with family and her many good friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Olan and Clora Bull; three sisters, Maxine Wenz, Betty Kirkus, and Dorothy Smith; one brother, Charles Olan “Bud” Bull, Jr.; and son-in-law, Terry Gott.

Evelyn is survived by her six children, Kenneth Ruckman and wife Pamela of Columbia, MO, Patricia Gott of Springfield, MO, Rebecca Loonsfoot and husband Glen of Marionville, MO, Mark Ruckman and wife Laurie of Republic, Jeffrey Ruckman of Kansas City, MO and Dan Ruckman and wife Jill of Republic; nine grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew, friend, travel buddy and caregiver, Steven Bull of Republic; one cousin, Katherine Moore of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., with the Celebration of Life Memorial beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Evelyn was a very giving person and had several favorite charities so in lieu of flowers please give to your favorite charity. The family wishes to thank Hospice Compassus for their caring support.
