Obituary for BILLY SPARKS

Billy Sparks at the age of 88, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Springfield, Mo surrounded by his family. He was born on January 25, 1930 in Eldridge, Alabama to Julius and Hattie Lou (Crawford) Sparks.

He was a Corporal in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. While there he met Helma Schoen and was united in marriage on March 25, 1952 in Frankfurt am/Main, Germany. During his working career they traveled extensively finally putting down roots in League City, Texas where they lived for almost 20 years. In 2008 they moved to Missouri to be closer to family.

Billy was a Mason for 45 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking Sunday breakfast, gardening and yard work, traveling, fishing and bbqing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 sisters.

Billy is survived by his wife of 66 years Helma, daughter Patty Sparks of Springfield, Mo; son Douglas “Buster” Sparks and wife Caren of Overland Park, Ks; two grandchildren Autumn Hembree and husband Jeff of Ozark, Mo and Johnny “J.R.” Jacobs of Springfield, Mo; two great grandchildren, Cameron and Skylar Hembree, sister Jimmie Lou Vines of Trussville, Al; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved poodle “Koko”.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 11-12 with the service immediately following at Clever United Methodist Church, 202 S. Kennedy Ave., Clever, MO 65631, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic, Missouri. Interment with Mason & Military Honors will be at 2:00pm at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood, Springfield, MO 65804. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, with checks made out to DAV Chapter 11, 1708 E.
