There are condolences waiting approval on SARA's Tribute wall

Sara Louise (Cook) Fugitt, BSN, RN-BC, March 10, 1948 - June 2, 2018

The Fugitt Family announces, with heavy hearts, the passing of Sara Louise (Cook) Fugitt, BSN, RN-BC of Republic, MO at the early age of 70 years old. Sara Fugitt peacefully took her last breaths at the Fugitt Family Farm, located in Republic, MO, at 6:07 pm CST on Saturday, June 2, 2018. Sara is survived by her loving husband, Jack Fugitt, CB; son, Mark Fugitt and wife Carol Fugitt (New Jersey); grandchildren, Noelle Gabrish, Tyler Gabrish and Tyler Camping (New Jersey); sister; Kathy (Cook) Roller and husband Allen Roller (Bruner, MO); two brothers, Larry Cook and wife Carol Cook (Marionville, MO) and Eldon Cook and wife Jackie Cook (Kansas City, MO).

Sara was born on March 10, 1948 in Aurora, MO to Eldon and Claudia (Dunham) Cook of Logan, MO. She was preceded in death by her mother, Claudia Cook; father, Eldon Cook; sister, Kay Herndon; and brothers, Ronald Cook, Jerry Cook, and Roger Cook.

Family was always an important part of Sara’s life as she grew up in a two-bedroom home with her seven brothers and sisters in Logan, MO. The love that was cultivated and shared in that small home allowed Sara’s passion of caring for others to blossom. Sara started work washing dishes while in the 6th grade at Reaves Café, in Marionville, MO. Between working at Reaves Café and growing up within a large family a work ethic and dedication to others was born with a focus on kindness and love towards others that eventually led her to her Nursing Career.

Sara went on to graduate from Saint John’s School of Nursing on the 16th day of May, 1986. She continued her education in nursing by obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Missouri State University on the 17th day of December, 1993. During Sara’s time working at St. John’s Hospital there were many floors that she floated to for work. While she gathered the respect of friends and colleagues on each floor, Sara found her home in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CCU).

The family farm was often used as a release point for the grueling days that CCU could offer. The love and passion she felt for the CCU floor was often the topic of laughter and tears that came from the back deck. Sara often found the peacefulness she desired on the back deck of the family farm house. God’s spectacular ability to provide beauty throughout the bottom field of the farm provided the release she required after a grueling day.

Outside of St. John’s hospital Sara never stopped. The Bunco girls were always providing opportunities and adventure to get out and celebrate a sisterhood that extended beyond work, friendship and family. The women of Bunco were very much members of Sara’s extended family in every way and shared moments that even her family didn’t get the opportunities to experience. Sara volunteered through the First Christian Church of Republic, Camp Barnabas, The Kitchen, Ozarks Food Harvest, Convoy of Hope and any organization where she felt she could help impact the community. When retirement came calling nothing compared to the time she was able to spend on the farm checking cattle with “Dad,” arranging her flower beds and ensuring that everyone felt welcomed when they stepped inside of her home.

Sara was surrounded by family and friends throughout her battle with cancer. Jack and Mark can’t express enough appreciation for the unwavering support and countless hours spent sitting and providing positive reinforcement to Mom from Angela and Randal Ewing, family, the Bunco girls, friends and the First Christian Church members. Honestly, we could not have made it through this without you.

Sara Fugitt was last seen smiling and waving goodbye as she walked hand in hand with our Savior Jesus Christ on her way to the gates of Heaven. As sad as we all are with the loss of Sara Fugitt, the Heavens are rejoicing for the return of God’s daughter and the amazing work she was able to accomplish through the time on earth that God provided her.

While these times have been challenging, the family would like to say a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and caregivers of Mercy Hospice, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Phoenix Health Care.
Visitation services for Sara Fugitt will be held at The First Christian Church of Republic, 443 North Main Avenue, Republic, MO 65738, between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm CST, Tuesday, June 12, 2018 (finger food will be provided) and at 9:00 am to 11:00 am CST Wednesday, June 13, 2018 (finger food will be provided).
