Plant a tree in memory of COLLEEN

An environmentally friendly option

Colleen Hayden, passed peacefully, Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Republic Nursing and Rehab, where she was surrounded by family, caring staff and an amazing roommate, JoAnn.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Genevieve Recob and her husband John Hayden. She has Two surviving daughters, Terri Hughes and Dianne Carder. Colleen has 3 surviving grandchildren, Megan Blake, Anthony Hayden and Holli Sweets. Earnie Hughes, Christopher Blake and Tim Carder are surviving son in-laws.
Colleen grew up in Pittsburg Kansas, where she graduated from Pittsburg College with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature. Colleen loved theater, drama and speech and debate.
She even spent time with Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California. Colleen was a radio announcer at KSEK Radio in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Most will remember Colleen as Mrs. Hayden, The “toughest” language arts instructor at North Jr. High. She was hard on her students, but wanted them to have the best education possible. Her students, to this day, appreciate her strict grading scale! Colleen loved fitness, had her own studio for a time and taught many classes at the Joplin Family YMCA. My mom is the reason I began my first fitness journey. We went on many runs together at 4:30 AM in the morning. We will still do those runs together.
Colleen will be missed- her “tough on you” legacy will continue, Mom, I’m hoping this article meets your grammar standards!! We all love and miss you. We all know you are happy.

Lovingly written by Terri Hughes
